Kuwait  and Slovenia has close ties and extensive cooperation in various fields. The state of Kuwait was among the first Arab countries that recognized the independence of Slovenia in June 1992, out of its belief in the right of peoples to self-determination, stipulated by the United Nations Charter. Further, it sought the setting up of cooperation relations with Slovenia that declared its independence from ex- Yugoslavia in June 1991.

Kuwait has a cooperation agreement in the health field with Slovenia since 1998, including bringing doctors from all medical specialties from Slovenia- namely specialists in neurology, intensive care, herbal medicine and plastic surgery.

The agreement includes sending Kuwaiti students to Slovenia to study medicine, doctors to complement their post-graduate studies and Kuwaiti patients to receive treatment there.

Furthermore, the two countries signed, in 2006, an accord on setting up a joint higher committee, besides a memorandum of understanding between their foreign ministries on holding bilateral consultations.

Kuwait  also presented a contribution of one Million euros to set up the Euro- Med University, headquartered in Slovenia in what came as an important step in the field of activating dialogue among Mediterranean countries.

Slovenian Officials have asserted on many occasions that their country share much similarities with Kuwait due to the small size of both countries and their experience of hardships under occupation. Slovenian officials went on to say that, these similar conditions necessitate from both countries working together in the international gatherings to make all world regions and countries avoid the same experience.

Slovenia’s strategic location, its available labor force, commercial bonds with regional markets, developed infrastructure and high standards of living were all significant factors in increasing the Kuwaiti investor’s interest.
